Course Outline

A BirthVenture birth and beyond course combines private antenatal classes with a luxury weekend away. The course is held in a luxury 4 star Spa hotel; Whittlebury Hall. You will learn in a relaxed and comfortable environment and. if you have booked a BirthVenture residential weekend, will have time to enjoy the spa facilties too.

Courses are usually for between 4 and 6 couples and are designed to be interactive, so you can ask questions along the way. A mixture of teaching styles are used to ensure you can absorb the information in the way that you learn best

Every BirthVenture Birth and Beyond course is unique and designed specifically around your needs. You will be asked to complete a pre-course questionnaire when you book giving you the opportunity to express what you would like included.

A typical BirthVenture Birth and Beyond weekend will include;

• The stages of labour and the process of straightforward birth
• Self help methods and pain relief options
• Hormones and the effect the birth environment has on labour
• The role of the birth supporter
• Positions to encourage straightforward labour and birth
• Hospital procedures and communicating with health professionals
• Induction and Augmentation
• Caesarean section and assisted birth
• Breastfeeding and early babycare skills.

BirthVenture courses are open to both first time parents and those having subsequent babies. We recommend that you book a course for attendance between 24 and 36 weeks gestation (24 to 34 if expecting more than one baby), although we are flexible about when you attend.

The hotel is located conveniently for access from Bedford Beds, Buckingham Bucks, Northampton, Northants. It is only 15 minutes from Milton Keynes and the M1 making it a convenient distance for London too. Our antenatal classes run over Saturday and Sunday, finish at 4:30 each day leaving you with plenty of time to relax and enjoy the wonderful surroundings and facilities.

What are antenatal classes?

Antenatal classes, prenatal classes, preparation for birth courses or birthing classes are some of the different names used to describe classes that prepare women, and often their partners, for birth and early parenthood.

Many women will attend local antenatal courses, perhaps at the hospital or community centre. However many women still feel that they want to know more and many fathers feel that they would benefit from attending an antenatal course too. An additional antenatal course is time well invested and research suggests that parents who attend antenatal classes cope better with their birth experience.
